If you decide to move out of your home before you put it on the market, does this affect you in any way? The answer is yes. If you move out of your home before you list it, this can put you in a disadvantage when negotiating.

The first thing that buyers are going to ask is where you went, how long the home has been vacant, and if you’ll take the home for less (since you’re already gone!). Buyers know that you’ve already moved on from that home, so it can be more difficult to sell a vacant home since buyers will be looking for a deal since it’s obvious that the home needs to be sold.

Talk to your real estate agent and come up with a strategy that works best for you and your situation. Sometimes moving out before putting your house on the market can’t be avoided, but other times you and your realtor can work together on a timeline that fits your moving and listing needs.
