What Financial Documents are Needed to Buy a House?

What documents do you need to provide to your lender in order to get prequalified for a loan? Let’s go over the checklist in this video, “What Financial Documents Are Needed to Buy a House?”:

What Documents Does Your Lender Need?

Ready to buy a home? That’s great news! Start by getting prequalified so you know your budget before you start looking for homes. Reach out to a few lenders and find out how much you can afford to buy a home for. As far as the documents needed for this process, your lender is going to need several documents in order to help you get prequalified to buy a home.

Some documents your lender will require may include: your W9 (or 1099 forms), last 1-2 years of tax returns, recent pay stubs, any investments (recent statements), and recent statements for any debt you may owe (such as credit cards, personal or car loans, or student loans). Your lender will also run a credit check on you when you’re in the process of getting preapproved.

There are going to be other documents that are also needed, and each individual may have a different list of documents that they need to provide to their lender depending on their job, location, and income. Length of time at employment, salary vs hourly pay, bonuses, ect may come into play, so get your numbers ready. Be sure to get these main documents ready as your lender will definitely need them, and be ready to provide more documentation as needed.

Always ask your lender what you can expect and what is needed to get the process started. Keep in mind that other documentation may be requested as you move throughout the loan process. Your lender will let you know what is needed to keep moving forward.
